About Key Resin

Our History

Key Resin Company was founded in 1993 by a group of investors intent on the development and improvement of resinous coatings for the protection and beautification of concrete and steel. Primary in its original team is Robert R. Cain, who had been a founder of General Polymers Corporation in November of 1966, later its President, and a researcher for Allied/Signal in the opening era of plastics development. It was while at Allied that he participated in the development of resins for everything from the Apollo program to the replacement of lead fill on auto assembly lines with epoxy putty.

Paramount in the concerns of Key Resin Company are the effectiveness of the material, the ease of application, and the service provided on each and every application.

Key Resin Company's first order of business was to enter the established markets of coatings and membranes while Bob pursued his development of a superior terrazzo resin. One project fed off the other, and Key quickly found that it was able to bring innovative materials to both fields.

In 1997, Key Resin Company moved into its current location in Batavia, Ohio, bringing together its headquarters in Cincinnati and its manufacturing facility in North Carolina. At this point, Key introduced a new epoxy terrazzo matrix: a matrix that minimized pin holing, adhered tenaciously to the stone, and was smooth and easy to both hand and machine trowel. The formulation is unique, providing a new, environmentally friendly blend of materials, and yet meeting or surpassing all established standards. Simultaneously, Key released a novolac epoxy terrazzo for heavy industrial areas, Urecon, a urethane containing cementitious mortar and slurry, Aquaglas, a penetrating concrete floor hardener, and Odyssey Flooring, a fine glass and stone system to compete with the economics of a decorative trowelled finish.

Key Resin Company continues to develop exciting new materials to meet the needs of its market. In 2001, EPOCON was introduced as an epoxy solution to moisture vapor transmission. EPOCON-SL is an epoxy underlayment for any non-breathing flooring system. Its unique chemistry enables it to form a barrier between the polymer flooring and the moisture vapor transmission problem. Also in 2001, Key Resin Company introduced a "breathable" epoxy terrazzo called EPOCON Terrazzo and opened a West Coast manufacturing facility: Key Resin West. Key Resin West, located in Phoenix, Arizona, provides material to the West Coast of the United States, Mexico, and beyond.

Key Resin Company has a complete specification service available to architects and owners, and will be glad to provide, at no cost, customized or guideline specifications as required.

Key Resin Company materials are sold through manufacturers' representatives to contractors and directly to the industrial market. Contractors installing Key Resin Company material must be approved by the Company, although Key Resin Company does not hold any interest in any contracting concern. It is the company's belief that such duplication challenges the integrity of the marketplace.
